Dear Supporter,
The Utica Mayor’s Benefit Gala is returning under a new administration and continues to achieve its mission of enhancing the quality of life for individuals within our community.
This year, when selecting a beneficiary, my wife Jody and I looked back at the history of who is rooted in selflessly helping people within our community. We wanted to select an organization that would be deserving not only because of the work that they do, but is also underappreciated in our eyes.
That organization is Thea Bowman House. While their mission is inspired by the work and teachings of Thea Bowman, even quotes of Sister Bowman speaking of her own work as a humanitarian embody their image in the community. She once stated that she was, “…content to do her little bit,” but clearly made a global social impact. Today the Thea Bowman house embodies the same drive within their core mission focusing on education and holistic support while supporting children and families within the diverse cultures of Utica. The Thea Bowman House truly provides the foundation for young families to thrive academically, socially, and become part of the fabric of humanity that Sister Bowman worked so hard to create.
My wife, a teacher, chose her career based on some of these very values, spending 22 years working in the field of education. In this field, we see a lack of support for bright minds at a young age – the very issue Thea Bowman House works tirelessly to solve.
It is for these reasons that we invite you to a gathering to celebrate Thea Bowman House in Utica, and support their efforts socially, emotionally, and financially at the Mayor’s Benefit Gala.
